Jonathan Marcus is a singer, songwriter, filmmaker, screenwriter, and photographer whose work is driven by storytelling, empathy, and social purpose.
As a musician, Jonathan creates songs rooted in emotion, human connection, and lived experience. He debuted in 2021 with “Better Place,” an ode to the spark of new love, followed by a full acoustic reimagining recorded with live session musicians in 2025. His music moves through a range of moods and stories—from the late-night energy of “Midnight” (2024) and the community tribute “South Bronx Strong” (2024) to his latest romantic single, “Lost In You” (2026).
On stage, Jonathan is also the creator, bandleader, and co-vocalist of The Get Down, a Los Angeles-based Soul, Funk, and R&B band. Recent performances include the 2026 Taste of Culver City, AM Start Events Appreciation Dinner + Gala at The Pelican Hill Resort, and a monthly residency at Hacienda Playa.
As a documentary filmmaker and screenwriter, his work spans nonfiction storytelling and narrative comedy. Inspired by his time living in and near Memphis, he produced a ten-part mini-documentary series spotlighting people and organizations working for justice and equity across the city. His comedy short “Interrogation” was selected and screened at the Cinequest Film Festival, followed by “Snooze Air,” a comedy short that premiered at the Indie Night Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Through photography, Jonathan explores the beauty, culture, and stories of the people and places he encounters. His work extends from art photography and fine-art prints to the cover art and visual imagery surrounding his own music and film projects. His photography art can be explored through Jonathan Marcus Photography.
At the heart of Jonathan's multidisciplinary work is a commitment to social justice—using art to foster empathy, challenge systemic injustice, and amplify historically marginalized voices. For Jonathan, creative work is both play and purpose: a way to share his voice, energy, and soul with the world.
